Choosing The Right Bag Or Suitcase Is Vital When Travelling By Plane

By:

Aeroplane transport has transformed our ability to travel, whether it is for work or simply to take a vacation. A journey that would have once taken weeks by train or ferry can now be made in just a few hours and it is common for many people in the UK to travel outside of Europe for their annual holidays. In addition, there is currently no tax on plane fuel which means airlines can sometimes offer a massively reduced ticket price that is often cheaper than the price of a train or ferry ticket. This means that journeys within the UK and even England are often made by plane.

At one time flying was reserved only for those on a higher income but today there are few people remaining in the UK who have not travelled by plane at some point. When it comes to packing even the regular flyer can find it confusing to know what their baggage restrictions are because the rules can vary greatly between airlines and airports.

Generally there is a weight limit of 22Kg per person if you have booked a hold bag but again this can vary. Organising your hand luggage can be even more stressful as there is not only a weight limit but a size limit too and some airlines will only allow one single bag per person. This is worth bearing in mind if you have a handbag or laptop bag in addition to a hand luggage bag because you may be asked to place one inside the other when passing through security.

It is important to select a bag that is hardwearing, particularly for the hold, and do not leave any valuable or breakable items in your hold luggage. A solid suitcase is usually the safest option but do not use a lock because if any checks are required then security will not think twice about simply cutting it off. If you do prefer to travel with a rucksack then you must ensure there are no loose ties or zips that could get caught in the machinery. The best thing to do is purchase a destination bag, which is a large protective canvas bag to stow your rucksack in.

Another option for protecting your suitcase or rucksack is shrink-wrap. Most left baggage services at an airport will offer shrink-wrapping for a small fee. If you are concerned about your bags becoming damaged in transit then it is worth paying a little extra for your peace of mind.
