Choosing The Menu For A Bridal Shower

By:

Choosing the menu for a bridal shower can be enjoyable or frightening, depending on what type of party is planned and the types of people involved.

The good news is that the range of acceptable items is wide enough that finding things to feed everyone is not as complicated as you may think. There are some simple considerations that can help you with this decision, the bride, the guests, and your budget.

The bride is, of course, the first person to consider when choosing the menu for her bridal shower. After all, she is not going to have a very good time if the foods offered are not items she will partake of and enjoy.

Try to choose a menu that you know she likes, or if possible, items she has expressed an interest in having, even if she has just hinted at what she wants. If you are hosting the bridal shower, you should know her well enough to establish what foods she will enjoy.

The guests are the second consideration. This involves a couple of different concerns. First off, consideration of the brides tastes should not override the guests entirely. Nobody will enjoy a party where the only one who likes the food is the bride. That leaves you with a lot of hungry people on your hands. If you know that the brides first choice is something nobody else will touch, you should consider leaving this item off the menu and going to the second choice.

The other concern is meeting individual needs. Do any of your guests have food allergies or special dietary needs? It would be in poor taste to have a menu loaded with sweets and have a couple of people who suffer from diabetes in attendance. Serving a menu with all meat items to a vegetarian would be equally as bad.

Try to offer enough variety that everyone will have some food choices they can enjoy even if there are items on the menu they do not like.
Your budget is also a major consideration when planning the menu for a bridal shower.

Even if the bride wants caviar and champagne, you may only be able to afford tuna and apple cider. Try to set your menu using items you would normally purchase for your own household. You may only buy them for special occasions, but do not include items that you would never buy otherwise.

Planning the menu for a bridal shower is very similar to planning the menu for any party in your home. You want to make special consideration for the guest of honor, in this case, the bride. You want to consider what sort of foods your guests will enjoy and make allowances for special needs.

You want to keep your budget in mind and plan on using foods that you know you can afford without running you short in needed areas. Planning a bridal shower is difficult enough at times without adding too many complications to planning how and what to feed the guests.
