Choosing Lcd Tvs Sensibly

You have to consider certain key aspects of LCD TVs in order to choose the right one. These key aspects include screen size, native picture resolution, scaling, motion response time, contrast ratio, brightness and other tuner considerations. Comparing these aspects will enable you to identify a suitable model based on your needs.
The screen size

The screen size is measured diagonally. You should decide on the right size for your TV screen based on the size of your room and your budget. Also keep in mind whether your room is a living room or a bedroom. Bedrooms generally require TV screens of smaller size.
Native pixel resolution

Flat screen LCD television sets have a number of pixels on the screen. That number is known as native pixel resolution. You should choose a native pixel resolution that is as high as possible. Most TVs offer a native picture resolution of 1280 by 720. Modern large screen TVs offer 1920 by 1080 native picture resolution. Such televisions cost more.
Scaling

The ability of a TV"s internal video processor to convert incoming signals to its native pixel resolution is called scaling. If the signals coming in are of a lower quality, they will be scaled up. The reverse of this is also true. This is why you should buy a TV that is HD ready. Bad scaling results in bad display.
Motion response time

The motion response time of an LCD TV is defined as the ability of the TV to display a fast moving object without blurring. Previously this was a weakness with LCD TVs. With the advancements in technology this problem has been rectified in most new models. You should check the specifications for motion response time which is measured in milliseconds. A suitable choice will be a TV that has a response time of 8 to 12 milliseconds. The shorter the motion response time, the better.
Contrast ratio

The contrast ratio is a comparison of the darkest and the brightest parts of an image. This is an important consideration. TVs that have low contrast ratios project dark images as grey or muddy and light images will look washed out. Look for a TV that has a contrast ratio of 1,500:1 or higher.
Brightness

The requirement for the brightness of the TV will depend on the viewing distance, screen size and the size of your television set. In a dark room, the image will look muddy and soft if the brightness of your LCD TV is low. A TV that has a brightness of 550cd/m2 is a suitable option. You should also conduct a visual inspection and choose the TV depending on the levels of brightness you are comfortable with.
Viewing angle

The viewing angle of your LCD TV will be determined by placing your TV in the centre of your room. Go to either side of your TV and determine the widest angle from the centre from which the TV is visible. A wider viewing angle is better. If the image becomes distorted within an angle of 45 degrees, the viewing angle is poor. Choose a TV that gives you a viewing angle of 80 degrees or slightly less. Choosing this feature will enable you to watch the TV from any corner in a big room.
Tuners

It is recommended that you choose a TV that has an in-built tuner. In the absence of an in-built tuner, you can buy an external tuner or a set top box.

"These are all the important considerations that you need to keep in mind in order to make a prudent decision when purchasing an LCD TVs."
