Choosing Colours For Your Home

By:

Red - It is the colour of danger, strength, violence and love, and in places like India and China, luck. Also, people who wear or are surrounded by red are psychologically more likely to succeed in what they're doing.

Orange - The colour of excitement and warmth and very demanding of attention. As well as red, it is one of the animal kingdom's danger colours - another good reason why people don't go near tigers.

Yellow - It stands for joy, optimism, hope and imagination. Supposedly, intellectual people prefer the colour yellow, and in Eastern Asia, it is the imperial colour. Saffron is the sacred colour of Hinduism.

Green - It is the colour of nature, luck, youth and health, but in China it is considered unlucky for a man to have a green hat.

Blue - The colour of peace, truth, trust and loyalty. In China it is the colour of immortality, and in Colombia it is - strangely - associated with soap. It is good to have on the walls in a baby's room.

Purple - Purple signifies royalty, mystery, magic and wisdom. Children apparently love the colour purple, and it is a good colour for calm and meditation.

Pink - the colour of love, beauty and caring, and helps to prevent aggression, which is why some prisons have been painted pink.

White - The colour of innocence, purity and cleanliness. In Eastern cultures it is the colour of mourning, as opposed to black.

Black - Black means sophistication, elegance, power and mystery. Native Americans believed that because black was the colour of soil, it gave life. To some people, it can be calming and restful.

I myself prefer the colour silver (illusion, mystery, femininity and riches, in case you're wondering) but I love all bright colours. I think knowing what colours mean is quite useful for designing things and decorating things, like your home, because you'd want your home to have a particular effect on you - as much as you may prefer the colour red, painting the walls blue or white is probably the best idea if you have a stressful job.
