Choosing Between Dental Implants And Dentures

By:

Tooth loss can happen to us as we grow old. However, aging is not the only cause. Usually, we lose our teeth because of neglect. Whatever the reasons are, having a missing tooth or missing teeth can change your appearance. In fact, it is quite embarrassing. It is a good thing that because of advances in dentistry and technology we now have a way to correct this awful picture. The introduction of dentures and dental implants or teeth implants has made a big impact on the dental health care field. Of course, it would be a great relief to get a replacement though prosthetics is quite different from the teeth you were born with.

People have been wondering and debating as to which prosthetic intervention is best. Are dental implants better than dentures? Since both require money and both affect a person's physical and psychological health, it is only appropriate to check out which is better by looking into the advantages and disadvantages of teeth implants and dentures.

Dentures

Dentures were developed first and most of us know about this type of intervention. Dentures actually cost less than dental implants and the process of creating the prosthetic is also faster. After a couple of visits, you will have the molded prosthetic. Another advantage of dentures is that, basically, you can have dentures regardless of your jaw structure or physical health. However, some denture wearers are not comfortable with their false teeth. Since dentures are removable and sometimes move a little bit, people may have difficulties chewing their food. For the same reason, some people often suffer from the humiliation of having their dentures detached and fall out of their mouth when they talk or laugh.

Dental Implants

On the other hand, dental implants are more securely rooted because they are embedded into the bone socket. The jawbone anchors the prosthetic tooth, which allows the dental implant to appear and feel like natural tooth. With dental implants, you can eat far more comfortably and the possibility of having the prosthetic tooth detached accidentally is eliminated. Though teeth implantation is actually a type of surgery and it costs more, there is a way around these drawbacks. With sedation dentistry, you can relax in comfort during the dental procedure. You may even forget sitting on the dental chair for a longer time than usual. If you are concerned about not being able to have enough money to pay for it, you can ask local cosmetic dentists (also known as implant dentists if they offer dental implants) about financing plans.

Visit your local cosmetic dentist for more information about dental implants and to help you decide if it is appropriate for you. Most cosmetic dentists will provide free consultation and answer any of your dental implant questions.
