Choosing Baby Bedding Sets For A Girl

By:

Part of the fun of getting ready for new babies is selecting nursery items, like the baby bedding sets. The crib is the focal point of the baby's room so it's important to choose bedding that is beautiful and practical. Babies spend a lot of time in bed so their little nests should be safe and comfortable.

Many parents choose a feminine theme for the nursery, maybe a cartoon character or something like butterflies. It's easy to buy bedding in many themes, whether it's a Disney character or soccer. Many home furnishing brands sell the corresponding items, everything from wallpaper boarders and other adhesives to sheets, quilts, toys, mobiles, light switch covers and other pieces.

Bedding sets vary in the number of pieces they contain, but most include the four basic pieces of comforter (or quilt or blanket), fitted sheet, crib skirt and bumper. Larger sets may also include additional items such as window valance(s), diaper stacker, toy bag and decorative pillows. These items are often also sold separately, especially things like matching curtains, toys, hampers, lamps and other furnishings.

It isn't necessary to match themes and colors exactly. Remember, bedding doesn't have 'to match'; it has to 'go with' the other furnishings in the room. It's good to be able to swap pieces in and out as they need to be replaced.

Safety

In an effort to keep children safe, products are sometimes recalled. These items should not be used and should be disposed of appropriately. Always ensure that the crib hasn't been recalled, whether new or old. Follow the recommendations of your pediatrician regarding bedding and buy age appropriate items. Check for choking and smothering hazards.

Comfort

Select soft, comfortable feeling fabrics that will be gentle to a baby's skin. Soothing colors and materials are best so baby can curl up comfortably. That might also mean a mobile that the princess can watch while drifting off to sleep or getting a diaper change.

Colors

There are certainly more colors in a rainbow than pink for a little girl. While many parents are delighted to do a 'pinkscape,' there are others who prefer a less saccharine approach. Fortunately, bedding manufacturers offer baby decor that is very traditional and very modern in a wide variety of colors, patterns and themes.

Care and Materials

Select bedding sets that are easy to care for and reasonably priced. Babies are messy little creatures and their bedding will need frequent washing so choose fabrics and colors that will hold up well to regular laundering. The crib sheet gets changed most often so an extra one can come in handy. Cotton and cotton blends hold up well. Avoid anything that needs to be dry cleaned.

Cost

Products are available at many price levels. Keep to a sensible budget. Many babies use their cribs all the time and others, almost never. Most children are out of the crib around two years of age. So any baby bedding sets, in 'pinkscape' or other styles, don't have to last any longer than that.
