Choosing A Swamp Cooler

By: Cooper Miller

A swamp cooler is a portable unit that uses evaporation to generate cool air. These units effectively provide cool air to particular areas or spots that would be too expensive and/or inefficient to cool by using refrigerator air.

In order to begin the operation of a swamp cooler, simply connect it to a water supply, plug it into an electrical outlet, aim the fan's cool air to the desired area, and turn the fan unit on! Swamp coolers only take a few minutes to generate cool air, and the comfort level of employees, athletes, customers, or animals is increased dramatically.

A high quality swamp cooler features stainless steal cabinets, heavy-duty pumps, and long lasting pads for normal wear and use.

The large wheels on most swamp coolers are easy to maneuver on either grass or hard surfaces- both inside and outside.

High CFM's are used to generate maximum cooling temperatures, and there is a hinged spray bar cover that makes easy access look nice. Swamp coolers are available in either Direct Drive, or Belt Drive with single speed or duel speed motors. There are also forklift channels that are permanently installed to the swamp cooler to allow for easy transportation, and the controls and valves are in a sheltered location.

What circumstances are swamp cooler units useful or necessary for? An example of the ideal situation in need of a swamp cooler would be a small area inside a building that needs to be cooler than the rest of the building. This is done more efficiently with a swamp cooler rather than cooling the entire building using expensive refrigerator techniques.

Another example would be on the field of a sporting event such as a football game in the bleacher area or near the dugout at a baseball game. You can use a swamp cooler at your outdoor event to increase the comfort of your guests, or use it in an industrial environment in areas that could use cooling and would benefit from the mobility feature.

You can also use a swamp cooler in an automotive environment. It is ideal for service bays, garages, body shops, tire and brake centers, and auto auctions. It is also useful for other various scenarios such as manufacturing plants, warehouses, loading docks, auto auctions, horse stables, retail garden centers, commercial greenhouses, and outdoor restaurants and patios.

There are endless possibilities that would find swamp coolers useful. The maintenance is easy and the accessibility to cool air is simple and maneuverable around any area.

There are four different swamp cooler models that are available to you, and they fundamentally range from smaller sizes and power to larger sizes and power.

The first size is the 18" variable speed. The 18" variable speed weighs about 120 pounds, uses 5 amps, and generates 3000 CFM's worth of cold air.

The next size up is the 24" unit dual speed, which weighs 230 pounds, uses 7.1 amps, and generates 4400 CFM's worth of cold air.

The next size up is a 36" Variable Speed, that weighs 230 pounds, uses 10 amps, and generates 10000 CFM's worth of cold air.

The forth and final size is a 48" single speed, weighs 350 pounds, uses 11 amps, and generates 17500 CFM's worth of cold air.

Choose the unit that best suits the area you desire to be cool.
