Choosing A Neighborhood With Character

By:

Have you always wanted to live in a neighborhood that was a destination in of itself? If you are interested in living in a neighborhood with a little character, you might want to consider purchasing a home in one of the following types of neighborhoods.

Historic

Historic neighborhoods can be found in many areas around the United States, with a few notable neighborhoods being the French Quarters in New Orleans, Buxton near Portland, Maine and Kenwood in St. Petersburg, Florida. Homes in historic neighborhoods tend to be large and well-preserved homes featuring architectural styles such as Colonial Revival and Victorian/Queen Anne. Historical neighborhoods tend to be home to middle-aged couples, home improvement buffs and aging adults who have grown up in the neighborhood. While historic neighborhoods have lots of character and curb appeal, it is important to note that these homes tend to require a great deal of maintenance and must adhere to certain style requirements.

Status or Destination

Status, or Destination, neighborhoods tend to be located behind a gate and feature lovely natural features such as mountain or lake views or magnificent city views. Homes in these neighborhoods tend to be large, custom-built single family homes. Obviously, homes in these types of neighborhoods, such as Highland in Denver or West Village in Manhattan, tend to be pricey and keeping up with the costly expectations of the neighborhood can be difficult for those who don't have the necessary cash flow.

Active or Resort

Active or Resort neighborhoods, such as Lake Placid in New York or Palm Springs in California, tend to be located near water or mountains or are located in sunbelt or coastal cities. These homes tend to feature luxury cabins, condos or large single-family homes with newer architectural designs. This type of neighborhood is perfect for those who enjoy living an active outdoor lifestyle, but the homes in these areas do tend to be a bit more expensive.
