Choosing A Midwife Safely

By:

Pregnancy, what a wonderful time for a woman. Well, except for the sickness. But beyond that, the expectation of a new baby coming is exciting.

Usually, for a lot of women, how they are going to deliver the baby isn't the big question. Because for most women they will choose the standard procedure which is the medical procedure which means hospitals, doctors, and drugs.

But for some women, an alternative is available. That alternative is hiring a midwife and doing it the natural way. And it is that alternative I am going to share from my experience as a San Diego midwife.

For those unfamiliar, midwives help women go through a natural delivery with no drugs. This means usually no doctors.

Often times midwives perform these services at homes. Although, maybe unusualy for most people, this alternative way to deliver a baby is safe and regulated.

The women, or midwife, who performs this service is fully regulated. They can come in two forms which are a certified midwife or a licensed midwife, both of which are regulated and overseen by a board.

Sometimes they can be a nurse, but it is not a requirement.

This form of delivery is an option a lot of women choose and includes waterbirth. Mostly the choice is made by women because they do not want any drugs during delivery and to prevent any drugs entering the new baby. Also it is for women who don't want any invasive procedures such as episiotomys.

When you are making a big decision such as the method of delivering your baby, you want to make right decisions. With most things, you want to pick the right person.

Like I mentioned before, this is a highly regulated industry. In that case, it is pretty easy to find a good licensed midwife.

All you have to do is find your state regulatory board that oversees midwives and do a background check to see if there have been any complaints or issues with your prospective midwife.

With this step, you can find out if it is a quality midwife and someone you can trust. Obviously once you find that there are no complaints or reports against the midwife, you also want to check references.

You will want to find that midwife whose client base only have high praises for them. With something as private and personal as a delivery, going through these steps will help you pick the right midwife for your delivery.
