Choosing A Hair Stylist In 3 Easy Steps

By:

Ok, it is never easy to choose a new hair stylist, everyone knows that by now. The chain salons are quick and easy, but you get what you get, and that may be a great head massage but a lousy haircut. The salon-spas on the other end are more likely to sell attitude than great cuts. It is my belief that any time the artist has done platform work, photo work, or any work in the fashion world, they try so hard to come up with something different that they often just come up with something weird. This doesnt translate to the real world, it is great in high fashion, but the run of the mill person doesnt request or want that type of hair style.
I think most people want a cut that works well with their features, and hair type. Most people with thin straight hair know that no one can cut their hair to look like Kim Kardashian. There are those few who wish for a miracle, but most people seem to have a realistic idea of what is and is not possible with their particular hair.
So, what should one look for in choosing a new stylist?
1. Take a good look at the person who will be working on your hair. Are they well put together? Or do they look like Biker Momma meets Godzilla? If you are looking for a style that works for you it might be better to steer clear of stylists that are covered in tattoos, have finger nails out to there, are wearing so much fake stuff that you cant even see their natural features, and wear clothes that are obviously too small for their figures. Maybe the guy with so many piercings that he looks like he belongs in a tribe somewhere isnt the person you should trust your locks to. While I do believe people who are in the beauty business can look a bit edgy, going over the edge is certainly a warning to steer clear.
2. Listen to the stylist. Is he or she chatting a mile a minute about himself or herself? This is a warning that the person working on you is into him or herself, not you. You want to look for someone who has your interest at heart In todays world we seem to have a need to tell others how great WE are, rather than find out more about who YOU are.
3. How long did you have to wait to get an appointment? The best hair stylists are booked in advance, and you must plan ahead to see them. There are so few really good stylists out there today, that those who are professional usually have a waiting list and stay very busy. There is always that lucky day when someone else cancelled at the last moment and the stylist gives you the appointment, but I know in my case appointment cancellations give me the time I desperately need to get my stuff done. (My poor toes need a cancellation)
If you are lucky enough to find someone who meets the criteria, they look good, are interested in you, and are busy, you had better start thinking about booking your next appointment before you leave, or you might be searching next time too.
