Choosing A Feminine Tattoo And Where To Put It

By: Leonard Skinart

Anyone who is planning on getting a tattoo has some things to think about, but women have some things to consider that men don't. Women who want a feminine tattoo that continues to look good for the rest of their lives should give some extra consideration as to what they get and where they get it.

Because of changes that can occur in the female body with aging and childbirth, tattoo location can be very important. It is a good idea to choose a location where the skin is not subjected to a lot of stretching and sagging because no matter how good or feminine or attractive a tattoo might start out, if it is located on skin that will tend to get stretched, get stretch-marked, or sag over time, the tattoo may wind up looking bad. In such cases, what once was a beautiful piece of skin art may simply draw attention to physical features that a woman wish were a little less noticeable.

I suggest that women consider areas like the back of the neck, the ankle, the low back, and the shoulder blade for their tattoos, as these arease typically do not change drastically in terms of skin elasticity. The forearms are also suitable for this reason, but they are less often chosen for feminine tattoos and are more popular locations for men to get tattoos.

The belly-button area and the breasts are pretty popular areas for feminine tattoos, but these spots are particularly susceptible to a lot of changes in skin elasticity because of pregnancy and to some extent, normal aging. The lower abdomen and pubic area can also be susceptible to sagging, and so while tattoos in these areas can look very sexy, they might not be the best locations over time.

Once you decide on the where, the next step is the what. To begin with, my first recommendation is to NOT get a tatoo of your lover's name anywhere on your body. No matter how good the relationship is right now, things can change!

Choosing a feminine tattoo can be a big project, as there are so many possibilities. Just make sure you choose something you actually like (don't let someone choose for you), because it's going to be with you a long time. You really don't want to rush this decision, so take plenty of time to research what you want.

When choosing from images like patterns, floral designs, etc., it is matter of taking the time to sort through the possibilities and choose what you like. I suggest doing more resarch if you are thinking about an Asian language character or other symbol that might have some meaning that you'd rather not have permanently imprinted on your body. Check at least a couple of resources and don't just take the tattoo artist's word for what a given symbol means. That beautiful, feminine tattoo might look good, but do you really want the Japanese symbol for "manure" printed on you?
