Choose To Persist

Choose To Persist

By:

In all of life's challenges, you can choose to persist or you can choose to quit. When the challenges and obstacles seem insurmountable, why persist? Why stay the course?

Why hold on to your dreams? Why keep your eyes focused on what you desire? Because, regardless of any and all obstacles, you can choose to persist.

Much as been written about people who refused to quit when faced with great challenges and obstacles. Although it would have been much easier for them to say, "This isn't working," or, "This just isn't for me," they persevered and got the results they desired.

Some of our best excuses rise to the surface when the obstacles we face seem to leave us exhausted. Excuses give us logical reasons to quit. Excuses eliminate our choice to persist.

Those who succeed in life choose to persist regardless of challenges and obstacles. They know the road to success will have it share of disappointments, discouragements, and at times, exhaustion. But they refuse to quit.

Those who succeed in life do not focus on the roadblocks. Instead, they look for paths around the roadblocks. Since they choose to persist, they also choose to find solutions.

Thus, there are two mindsets. One sees roadblocks as the end of the journey; they have not committed to persist. Others see roadblocks as an opportunity to learn more about solutions; they are committed to persist.

A big problem for lots of people is not reaching their destination fast enough. They have a dream, set some goals with timetables, and then set out on their journey. But when it doesn't happen as fast as they expect it to happen, they get discouraged, and many quit.

No one will ever know how many people quit shortly before they could have reached their dream. Yes, we can read countless stories about people who almost quit, but chose to persist. Yet, even knowing those experiences, people still choose to not persist.

My wife and I raised two children and I can still remember when they both learned to walk. At first, they failed miserably; eventually, they learned how to stay on their feet and walk. They persisted and we encouraged them because we knew they had the potential to walk.

An even bigger problem for many people is that they sell themselves short and do not recognize their own potential. They do not believe in themselves. They quit, failing to recognize one of their greatest assets: their potential.

Plenty of scriptures in the New Testament illuminate the great potential for Christian believers. How can anyone read those bold declarations and still not see their great potential?

God does not want any of His children to fail. In addition to a fabulous mind that can be programmed to persist, He has also freely given us His spirit. How can spirit filled Christians allow obstacles to cause them to quit, when the Bible declares that we are more than conquerors?

Christians who have a low opinion of themselves have either never read the New Testament or they just refuse to believe it. They have chosen to look at their past mistakes and failures; they look at their lack of present results; they look for excuses to quit. They are looking at all the wrong things.

Look at who God made you to be; you are His dear child. Look at yourself the way God looks at you and you will see your great potential. Honestly, the potential we have is simply unlimited.

Why should you stay the course, hold on to your dreams, and keep your eyes focused on what you desire? Because you not only have the potential to see your dreams come true, but you have a choice. So choose to persist.
