Choose The Right Kind Of Safari When You Visit Africa

By:

With so many safaris to choose from in Africa I thought I would try and delve a little deeper into the type of safaris that are available for you to embark upon and give you my top four safari adventures to experience. Southern Africa is such a wide and diverse region that exploring it to its full is an impossible task; but choosing the kind of safari that is right for you can go a long way to ensuring that you get the most out of your experience.

Guided safari this is by far the most common African safari, this mainly involves game drives where a specialist driver will guide you through a wildlife experience depending upon what animals you would like to see. They can either be done within a group or be a private affair with just one or two people. The advantage of a privately guided safari over a group safari is that you can begin the tour when you wish and stay out in the bush for almost as long as you want.

Walking safaris are very different to experiencing on foot as opposed to a tour in a vehicle, you can really feel a part of the African landscape when youre experiencing it at ground level. You will of course cover less ground on foot unless youre Usain Bolt, but the moment you step out of the safari vehicle your senses increase and you have a greater appreciation for the African wildlife. Zambia is considered as the home of the walking safari although they can be enjoyed across many of the Southern African nations.

River safaris Are a unique way to see the African wildlife and landscape. You can get close up to some of Africas big five animals such as a gracious hippo lazing about in the water or a thirsty lion drinking from the river. The most common form of a river safari is in a motor boat guided tour, but those who are feeling a little more adventurous can embark upon a canoe safari and really test yourself and you get that much closer to the African wilderness.

For an all together different safari why not try a primate safari? These take place in Rwanda and Uganda and have a much different landscape to that of a Kenyan or a South African safari, as Rwanda and Uganda has a very watered and fertile land which is covered by dense forest. The primate safaris are so spectacular and within seconds of seeing your first primate, you will be in awe of their beauty.

Balloon safaris is by far the most silent and graceful way to experience an African safari. They offer unparalleled panoramic views of the awe inspiring landscape. They are a very popular excursion because you are able to see so much of Africas landscape in such a short space of time, from 1,000 feet up into the air to tree top level where youll get to see the animals up close and personal.

If these pointers havent helped you to decide that type of safari to go on then why not speak to someone who can help you at Mahlatini, their staff are so experienced and knowledgeable about African safaris as they are from South Africa and have been on many of the safaris themselves, so they know firsthand just how amazing each and every single safari experience is.
