It is situated in the Jones Valley and is flanked by long parallel mountain ridges running from northeast to southwest.

Birmingham is the home of many cultural festivals in which a lot of people participate. The city also celebrates its historical heritage through several museums. Biking in Oak Mountain near the city is also popular, as well as road running events such as the Vulcan 10K Run. Aside from running, golf is also a popular sport in the city. Birmingham is famous for its beautifully designed gold courses.
