Many known and unknown factors are to blame for the large number of back pains that afflict people. The lifestyles that many live are partially to blame since most people spend a lot of their time seated. Road accidents contributes quite a large number of patients with back problems. Bone degenerating medicine is also known to affect the back. Old age affects the rate of repair and replacement of body tissue which affects the back too. A high number of people with back pains can trace their problem to a road accident. An accident jolts the human body violently which causes unnatural postures which are likely to be harmful. When the back is bent or twisted in uncomfortable positions, a back problem may set in. Straining exercises are capable of harming the spinal cord if performed without due regard for safety. Seating in such a posture for extended durations will result in discomfort and ultimately, pain.

Other rare causes that bring about back pains are infections and tumors. Some growths occur on the body tissue which can trigger pain. Some painful backs are difficult to point out the real problem since they have no known cause. An example is where one goes to sleep without any problem and wakes up the next day with a painful back.

Back problems can be blamed on a number of reasons. Modern day lifestyles have contributed the most cases. Many of the working hours are spent seated. Driving too is a sitting activity which adds up to many hours. Standing or seating in unnatural positions causes strain to one's body resulting in painful backs. As one grows older, the human body is not able to replenish itself fast enough which causes tissue degeneration resulting in pain. Some medication affects the bones which wears them out resulting in pain too.
