Collecting Chinese porcelain can be both personally rewarding as well as highly profitable, if you know what you are doing. But to know what you are doing takes time and effort. The first thing you need to do is begin learning everything you can about collecting porcelain. There are a lot of ways to do that today. You can look at auction catalogs both on and off line, books and magazines as well as specialty websites on the Internet.

Take a look at the pictures in the sites. There are many varieties of Chinese porcelain. There are classes of porcelain as well as collecting based on dynasties. And although it may be hard to choose just one, that is exactly what you should do. You should find something you genuinely feel a connection to. After you begin to learn more, you may want to start buying one or two inexpensive pieces. When it is time, make sure you really have a handle on the fake industry that is prevalent in Chinese porcelain collecting.

If you are looking to buy a piece of porcelain on eBay or some where else that offers good, decent pictures, but your still not sure if something is genuine or not, you can submit the pictures to a site that has a forum or comments and ask the people there to tell you if the piece of porcelain you'd like to buy is real or not. It may take a few days for them to respond so don't wait until the end of an auction to begin to ask questions.

This should be enough to get you started on your way. I wish you a great experience in beginning to collect authentic antique Chinese porcelain.
