Chinese, The Green Onion Way

What you see An extremely noisy crowd at a restaurant painted in red. Thats what greets you at Green Onion. This Chinese restaurant tries to go the extra mile for authenticity. You see that in the staff serving you here and even in the dcor that includes wind chimes and Chinese writing in the interiors.

To let you know more about the interiors, the furniture here is quite spartan. The table is a simple marble top one and the seating capacity is also limited. So there is bound to be long waiting time during meal hours.

What you get Chinese, Chinese and more of it. Now this is one convenient place where you get good grub and a reasonable service. It isnt heavy on the wallet too. Starters are quite what you would expect in any other Chinese restaurant. The usual Mushroom Manchurian and Paneer Manchurian. An interesting dish over here is called Tai Pei fried potato. This is a spicy dish and worth a try. The Veg-stuffed mushroom is quite good too. The starters cost about Rs. 65 for vegetarian and Rs. 75 for the non-vegetarian variety.

The soup section is adequate with their specialty being Veg Green Onion soup. This also comes in the chicken variety. Others on the menu include Veg sweet corn, Chicken sweet corn soup, Veg clear soup and the like. Spend some time on the menu card and you will even get to know some historical background of these soups.

The menu also guides you with respect to choices of rice or noodles and the gravy to go with each. They say, its something like the Yin and Yang. For every sour dish you choose, sweet goes along with it. So if you go for a sour rice dish go for a sweet gravy. Same is the case with bland and spicy.

We tried the Malaysian noodles here. Now these are actually flat noodles unlike the regular Chinese noodles. So it resembles some kind of Italian pasta. This dish will go well with people who have a yen for spicy stuff. Apart from all of that, seafood is also available here. And theres also a small section for lamb meat. These come on a higher side and will cost you Rs. 110. There are no alcoholic beverages served here.

Well, people with a sweet tooth are in for a big disappointment here. The variety is limited to Fuyong in three varieties - plain, with ice cream and with the meat of your choice. And what is Fuyong you might ask. Well, its actually a type of cake we were informed. Cake and meat? Whoa! Thats interesting.

Our verdict This is a place to go to if you are looking for a quick bite without fussing much about the ambience. The food tastes good and there is variety as well. The portions are quite generous too. Well, the service is not discourteous except for the fact that we found it a little inefficient. Reason? One of the items we ordered for missed reaching our table. Limited parking space is available.

What you pay for a meal for two Rs. 350-500
