China Turns To The Eu And The Usa To Make Up The Lack Of Supplies From Japan

By:

According to business experts, the shortage of supplies caused by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan forces China to turn to a wide range of products from Europe and the United States. Electronic and motor processing companies in China will began to import from the European Union and the US in the next two to three months so that the problem of stemming shortage can be solved.
China depend largely on Japan in electro-mechanical products import. Last year, about 18 percent of China's electro-mechanical imports came from Japan, that makes Japan the largest source of electro-mechanical products for China.
The earthquake and tsunami had great impact on Japan's exports of semiconductors, chips for electronic devices, precision instruments, industrial bearings, auto and electronic components. The catastrophe led to the suspension of many electro-mechanical and auto manufacturers such as Sony, Sharp, Toyota, Toshiba, Nissan and Honda. More than half of domestic electronic processing enterprises in China agree with the opinion that the import, communication and logistics of Japanese electro-mechanical products have been affected severely.
Japanese vehicle sales in China take up to 27 percent of the China market, the shortage of motor components will lead to fewer cars production in China by Japanese manufacturers. Thus, many buyers will turn to German, French or American cars.
With several factories in China, Nissan Motor Corporation says its storage of some components will last to the end of March. But when the supplies from Japan will resume is unsure, and if that kind of situation last for too long, they will choose to buy components from European countries. Ericsson Ltd in China's branch said that it has been trying its best to maintain the supplies of components such as semiconductors, memory chips and batteries.
There are still a large number of high-tech components need to be imported from Japan, while the full resume of semiconductors and electronic chips can not achieve in a short time. So Chinese enterprises should get ready for importing expensive precision instruments and bearings from Germany, Switzerland and Sweden, electronic chips from Silicon Valley and vehicle components from Detroit.
With 13 percent of export of machinery, electronic products, vehicle and so on, Japan was the third biggest trading partner to China last year. Bilateral trade between China and Japan are 21 billion dollars in February, and China have a deficit of 4.62 billion dollars, according to report on China Daily. It also said that the shortage of Japanese electro-mechanical products to some extent will reinforce the high-tech trade cooperations between China, the EU and USA in the second half of this year.
