Chin Liposuction - Read This And You Will Change Your Mind

Liposuction, lipectomy, lipoplasty or simply "lipo" is a form of cosmetic surgery for removing unwanted fat from under the skin. As a very common form of surgery, it involves injecting enzymes under the skin and inserting a thin tube called a cannula through a small incision into a pocket of fat and suctioning it out.

Facial Liposuction is chiefly done around the neck and jowl area, thus it is also called chin liposuction. It is generally done to shape the lower facial structure to balance the face or redefine the chin. In this procedure, although no vital organ is involved, the candidate still has to be in good health before being undergoing surgery.

A good candidate for liposuction must be over 18 years old, in good general health and must be emotionally stable. Diabetics and people with heart or circulatory problems are not eligible for lipoplasty.

Although this procedure is done to remove excess fat, obesity of the candidate would weigh heavily against having the procedure since the person would be, in general, less likely to be physically fit. Obese people are two to three times more likely to die under general anesthesia than lean people and are also more likely to experience post-operative complications.

Experts also agree that removing large volumes of fat becomes a complex and life-threatening procedure, so obese people are usually asked to try other methods of losing fat first before coming for the operation. In some cases, the surgeon will opt to do several procedures over a long period to eliminate the risk, but then the procedure becomes expensive and time-consuming.

Patients who undergo chin liposuction must also be emotionally stable because there is a healing period wherein most patients will experience a period of depression. Any pre-existing emotional problem could develop into a serious matter during this time. Since the procedure involves running an injection back and forth under the skin to break up the fat, blood clots can occur during surgery, which may lead to severe bruising.

If the procedure is not carried out properly, it can be an unpleasant experience. There will be different amounts of discomfort and swelling among individual patients after the operation and this could be a rough experience. Most patients who complain about the procedure do so during this healing process. In the case of obese people going through the procedure several times, the emotional strain of going through several traumatic experiences should not be discounted.

The patient's age becomes an issue because inelastic skin may sag and appear flabby when the underlying fat is removed. The inability of the skin to wrap itself readily around the new shape could cause some problems especially if the procedure is done close to the face.

And while some doctors claim that the technique is simple, safe, and has an immediate cosmetic effect, they all agree that liposuction is not an effective long-term treatment for obesity. It is strongly recommended that anyone who is thinking about getting this procedure should consult a reputable, fully qualified surgeon.

There are some known cases where the procedure actually worsened the original condition and in some cases, became dangerous to the patient because of allergic reactions to the medications or material used during surgery. Infections have also been known to occur, and damage to other tissues beneath the skin can happen because the surgeon cannot see the tip of the cannula while doing the procedure.

Although the damage can be repaired by additional surgery, it can be fatal if not diagnosed right away. Medical conditions such as skin necrosis can sometimes set in whereby the skin falls off the necrotic area or seroma.

In some cases, a fluid imbalance has been known to occur because of the injection and removal of large amounts of fluid in the body. This condition usually happens after the patient is sent home. When too much fluid remains in the body, the heart, lungs and kidneys could be badly affected.

So before you even consider approaching the idea of chin liposuction to do something about the problems on your face it might be a good idea to consider natural remedies first.
