Chillers And Their Compressors

There is a piece of equipment that is known to have and be utilized for two direct functions. One is so there can be something to pump a refrigerant through your personal cooling system and the other is so a gaseous refrigerant can be compressed. The first process is something that is used in the heat cycle that helps with a phase change. This phase change is one from a gas to a liquid, and the second process is so there is a liquid that is being absorbed to heat from the air around us or the water that is going to be cooled.

There are many different types of chillers - reciprocating, rotary, screw, centrifugal, and scroll. The first kind which is reciprocating uses a process in which there is a piston within a cylinder that helps to compress the refrigerant. This type of compressor is one that is an ongoing cycle in which the piston is being pushed down by pressure and at some point comes back up and the process repeats.

A rotary compressor has something in which the refrigerant is given pressure and changed by the rotating of a roller which is inside of the cylinder. As the roller is rotating, it causes a rubbing, or sort or friction against the wall of the cylinder it is attached to. As this process occurs, the refrigerant starts to take up volume of the space it is taking up and thus the refrigerant becomes compressed.

Another compressor is screw which uses something called helical rotors. As these devices rotate they combine and they open and close spaces at the ends of these rotor devices. With this, the refrigerant is taken into the spaces and it becomes intermitted with the rotors, as this happens the refrigerant gets compressed due to the loss of volume and space.

A centrifugal one uses the rotation of a wheel to have a force inside a chamber; with this the refrigerant goes into the wheel and then is pushed out. With all the force acting upon it, the refrigerant becomes pressurized and with low volume is compressed.

The last type is a scroll compressor which is set off by two different disks that are in a spiral form. While the upper disk is still the lower one moves in a circle and causes different spaces to form. The refrigerant goes into the accessible portions that it can and is compressed because with the pressure that is created within the ports, there is compression.

These pieces of equipment are used for many different things like an air conditioning system. To find the right type is the most important.
