Children And Weddings; Children In Weddings

By:

Children are a meaningful and fun addition to any wedding. Often these children are relatives of the bride or groom or of a close friend to the party. Wedding planners advise inviting only children over 4 years of age or older to be in the wedding. Children of this age are generally able to follow directions and not create problems during the ceremony. Be sure to patiently and clearly explain to the child and the parents what the child will be expected to do. Explain thoroughly what they are to wear and the exact nature of the assigned job. By making the children comfortable with your ideas, you are less apt to have problems on the wedding day.

At the wedding reception a separate table may be set up to cater specifically to children. A childrens menu may be served. Crayons and coloring books make a great centerpiece as well as serving to entertain the children. Another huge hit with children is a balloon animal maker. Small children that cannot eat by themselves and are prone to wandering should not be put at this table; they should remain with their parents.

Child Care
A very good idea is to set up a secure child care room for young children. With their children cared for the adults will be able to more fully enjoy the wedding while knowing their children are being cared for. This approach will also limit disruption during the ceremony.

Attitude
Be aware that children tend to get bored quickly and they change their minds frequently. Try to keep your sense of humor and be up-beat no matter what is going on. Sometimes children become intimidated when they see the crowd and refuse to go down the aisle. Make an alternative plan so that in the event the children refuse, it is not a major upset to the proceeding.

Ring Bearer
The ring bearer is normally a male 4-8 years old. He walks down the aisle carrying the two wedding rings attached on a pillow. The pillow with the rings attached should be given him only the moment before he sets off down the aisle to lessen the possibility of loss of the rings. The ring bearer should wear attire matching the rest of the males in the wedding part. A little boy in a tux makes a most adorable image.

Flower Girl
The flower girl walks down the aisle following the ring bearer. It is also acceptable to have them walking side by side. Choosing the flower girl dress can be a really fun experience. There are boutiques that specifically cater to wedding wear for children or you can opt to shop department stores or online. Keep in mind that the parents of the flower girl pay for her dress and shop accordingly. Include the parents in the choosing of the dress. Remember to shop for matching shoes once the dress is chosen. Most little girls love to dress up and feel like a princess. A small replica of the wedding gown would make a lovely flower girl dress.

Children add much joy to a wedding. They are charming and cute. Be patient with them as they help you to celebrate your wedding day.
