She is reported to be in a serious condition. Her family and friends have been maintaining a website dedicated to her process. According to the website CaringBridge.Org, Rebecca has been attached to an EEG machine to monitor her brain activity. The 11-year-old girl is an actress, and has performed in several plays in her town.

Every year, thousands of pedestrians are injured in accidents in Southern California. In most of these cases, it's the motorist who is at fault. A speeding motorist may knock down a person who is in a crosswalk. Other times, motorists may be driving under the influence of alcohol, and may fail to spot a pedestrian in time, or fail to stop in time to avoid an accident.

Injuries sustained in such accidents are always serious, and can leave a pedestrian with debilitating injuries. An impact with a moving vehicle can throw a pedestrian dozens of feet. When the pedestrian hits the ground, there is a high potential for spinal cord fractures, head injuries and other catastrophic injuries. Such injuries may leave a person in need of intensive medical attention, physical therapy and long-term care. There may be extensive rehabilitation involved in relearning how to perform everyday activities.

Victims of Pedestrian Accidents may be Eligible for Damages

Like with any other motor vehicle accident, persons injured in a pedestrian accident may be eligible for damages from the motorist responsible for the accident. These damages can include both economic and non-economic damages. Economic damages will include medical expenses, including the cost of hospitalization, doctor's bills and medication costs. They may also include the cost of physical therapy and rehabilitation services. In case of a working adult, benefits may include wages lost because of the injury. There may be compensation for non-economic damages as well, and this will include damages for pain and suffering, mental anguish etc. If there is the need for long-term care for the individual, then this will be factored into the claim too.

Damages may be available even if the accident was at least partially the fault of the pedestrian. For instance, in case the pedestrian was walking under the influence of alcohol or was not on a designated marked crosswalk, they may be eligible for lower compensation because of the part that their negligence paid in causing the accident. However even in such cases, they may still be eligible for damages. A California pedestrian accident lawyer will be able to help you determine the kind of damages you may be eligible for.
