Child Health

By:

From before birth through to young adulthood there are a range of health issues that affect our children. The Child Health topic covers many of those issues, from general childhood illnesses, eating and obesity, to accidents and injuries and particular stages of life, such as teenage independence. Good child health is important not only for children and families now, but also for good health later in adulthood.
Pregnancy and alcohol don't mix.

There is no safe time to drink alcohol during pregnancy and there is no safe amount of alcohol. Alcohol can harm a baby for life.
ome of these babies will have Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and have signs of harm when they are born including weighing less than expected at birth and having unusual facial features. These babies go on to have a delay in their development and learning and behaviour problems.

Step 1
Sit the child upright, remain calm and help the child stay calm. Do not leave the child alone.
Step 2
Quickly give 4 puffs of a reliever puffer (blue puffer), one puff at a time. This is best given through a spacer. Ask the child to take 4 breaths from the spacer after each puff. Use a puffer on its own if no spacer is available.
Childhood Illnesses
Big worry for parents is that their children will get ill with something serious, and they won't recognize it or act quickly enough. This is an understandable fear. Babies and small children can get very sick quite suddenly, and you need to be vigilant. His last thing a parent needs before she's even had her first cup of coffee is a call at work from a child care provider who says her child is sick. The last thing a child care provider needs is to discover an ill child in her care who may have exposed other children in the program or center.

Chicken Pox
Chicken pox is a common childhood illness. Fever and cold symptoms are often the first signs of illness and are followed by the appearance of the typical rash. The rash starts as small pink bumps, often around the neck, ears, back and stomach. These develop a little water blister, which in turn becomes yellow and oozy and ultimately crusty as it dries.
