Chicago Prius Drivers Not Phased By The Recall

By:

The recall is forcing Prius and other Toyota model drivers to reevaluate their long-standing brand loyalty for the Japanese manufacturer. If the controversy had just involved the recall, it might not have lit so many media fires. The unfortunate truth of the matter is that the government is currently running a criminal investigation into the circumstances of the recall. If Toyota doesnt make it out alive, there is sure to be a serious backlash from the automotive community. Well have to wait and see.

In the meantime, its important to keep in mind the reputation the Japanese automaker has garnered over its time on the market. Toyota has always been known for solid, fuel efficient and dependable vehicles, whether youre talking about the Camry, Corolla or any number of Toyota models. The Prius launch a few years ago seemed to be the cherry on top of the sundae. Breaking all sorts of boundaries for the flailing industry, the launch of the Prius set the bar at a record height for fuel efficiency, eventually pushing fuel economy ratings as high as 51 miles per gallon. Chicago Prius drivers have been happy with their vehicles up until now, just as the recall threatens to take all that loyalty away.

On the other hand, its important to note that deaths and accidents have been linked to the faulty Prius brake system black marks that can hardly be wiped clean from the manufacturers proverbial slate. Chicago Camry drivers should emerge from the recall relatively unharmed, but Chicago Prius drivers may have a solid case in a sudden shift away from Toyota products. The timing is horrible for Toyota; just last year, the media and consumer backlash against the irresponsible actions of the Big Three left a general stigma for manufacturers everywhere nurturing a significant push in the direction of fuel efficiency, a move that will help us reduce our reliance on foreign oil and slice our giant environmental footprint into a fraction.

The Toyota recall has touched drivers everywhere in a different way. Suburban families, commercial customers and business people have all been affected by the sudden recall. But serious Chicago Prius advocates are fighting for the technology that turned the industry on its side. Still, there is now a big opening for other automakers to step in and snatch away Toyotas place in the sun, which will ultimately be the real challenge for Toyota over the next year. For instance, Nissan is gearing up to launch a new electric vehicle as part of the continued evolution of the efficiency boom. GM is another future major player, with the launch of the Chevy Volt just around the corner. Even big luxury brands like Lexus, BMW and Mercedes have employed hybrid technology in their powerful vehicles.

Until the government has sifted through the recall information, Chicago Camry drivers can still feel some confidence in the manufacturer of their cars. Until the decision is made, well be hang on to the confidence weve had in one of the most innovative automakers in the industry.
