A number of doubters have suggested that it is merely a marketing story that links the Chesterfield sofa to royalty in this way. The obvious intention being to get people to buy a chesterfield under the guise of joining an elite fraternity. The truth of the origin and its link to royalty may never be confirmed but the design of the Chesterfield sofa meets the requirements of comfort and function so well that it has become a standard in the furniture industry today.

The very wealthy and "stuffy upper class" have traditionally been the target market for the rolled arms, buttoned down seats and leather coverings. These days almost anyone can afford a nice leather Chesterfield sofa. When you factor in the ease of maintenance and cleaning leather; the fact that liquids generally dont soak in and the fact that leather is going to last much longer than fabric, it is easy to see that leather is a wise choice. The well made chesterfield lasts a long time due to it's rugged design and you will be glad to have the instant upgrade that it gives to any room.
