When renting a car from a car rental agency at home, most people know what to expect. After all the laws that exist in your region are familiar to you. When you are traveling abroad, however, there can be many issues that can arise that you may not be aware of and it is extremely important to get a handle on these issues before you leave home. People tend to travel as they get older and now with people living longer this is becoming an issue. And even if you can very easily rent a vehicle from a company in the United States if you go to the same company in Germany they may not allow you to take that rental vehicle off the lot.

People who travel that want to rent a car also have to deal with the issue of provable insurance. For instance, you may be required to provide a certified document in order to prove that you have insurance in another country. Most people have car insurance in their home country, but proving that and applying it to other countries can be difficult. You may need real hardcore proof, like a certificate of insurance, along with your insurance card because otherwise you may have to lay out more money for additional insurance.

Damage and the associated liability do not affect as many people, perhaps, but this is an important issue seen for rental cars overseas. Now, many arrive to rent a car and find out there already is a ton of damage beforehand. This may be due to a small company that is not well known but it has happened in those reputable, well known companies as well.

Because of the language barrier many people try to take advantage of tourists but what ever you do don't take that car off the lot until you have documented everything or they may try and hold you liable for these damages. If they don't give you a means of documenting these issues on the leasing agreement then make notes on this document before signing it. Also, take pictures. Pull out that cell phone or camera and get the shots of this vehicle you need before you leave the lot. A picture is worth a thousand words. It is important to prepare yourself in advance for your international vehicle rental. Being prepared is the key to making the experience a much smoother one.
