Check Out This Awesome 80's Science Fiction Flick

Ok, so quite a few people are absolutely going to believe I am stupid or weird, since I rant about Cherry 2000, a 24 old scifi movie. All I can say is that I am kind of weird, but in a positive way, hehe. I really enjoyed this scifi movie and though it is from 1987 I still like it. It remains one of my personal "cult" movies.

Cherry 2000 starring Melanie Griffith and David Andrews takes place some years in the future, where robots are everywhere. Actually, they are not independently thinking robots, just programmable and controlled by a an artificial personality profile.

Sam Treadwell has such a robot and that robot is his wife, his best friend and the center of his life.
One day Sam gets back from work and his loving wife has prepared his favorite meal for him and after dinner a romantic scene evolves, while she is working in the kitchen. The water runs over from the sink and gets inside the robot just as they are making out on the floor. This causes the robot to severely malfunction. I guess this is what they would call a mood killer.

Sam brings the robot to an engineer who informs him, that there is nothing he can do to repair it. She is gone for good. Sam does not handle this well and his life is shattered, since he genuinely has a deep love for the machine that has fulfilled the role of an ideal wife for him for a long time.

Now Sam has to find a robot of the same make, where he can insert the original personality disc and in that way get his wife back. But not just any old robot will do. It has to be an exactly identical model and these only exist in one place: an abandoned storage facility inside the so called "Zone", which of cause is dangerous and controlled by bandits and outlaws.

In order to travel safely through the Zone Sam hires the tracker E. Johnson played by Melanie Griffith and together they fight of the outlaws while making their way towards Sam's destination.

Sam absolutely needs E. Johnson. The journey is filled with danger and he is not exactly a tough guy type like E. As they push on the bandits in the zone lays traps for them which they try to avoid. To begin with the bandits simply appear to be thieves who want to get their hands on E's car and their stuff, but when Sam later gets caught Sam discovers that the outlaws are lead by a murderous madman who believes he has created the ideal society alone in the Zone.

Among the people there Sam comes across his ex-wife who like most of the others is there of her own free will. She tries to convince Sam to stay, but of cause he won't. He gets away in the night while setting fire to some of the outlaw's cars and bikes and the final race commences.

Towards the end Sam finds out something about him self.
