The Cadillac DTS is a large front-wheel drive sedan with a 4.6L V8 engine. The engine is a holdover from the previous generation DTS, and is, as would be expected at this price range, a smooth and powerful performer. The engine delivers two hundred seventy-five horsepower at six thousand revolutions per minute, and two hundred ninety-five pounds of torque at four thousand four hundred revolutions per minute. The Cadillac DTS was a strong performer in acceration testing, especially considering this is a full-size, six passenger car. The DTS was able to accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in seven and six-tenths seconds; the quarter mile was covered in fifteen and three-tenths seconds with a maximum speed of ninety-three miles per hour.
The engine features four valves per cylinder, and requires premium unleaded gasoline. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the DTS with the 4.6L V8 engine returns fifteen miles per gallon in city driving and twenty-three miles per gallon on the highway. The engine delivers this performance to the front wheels through a four speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The vehicle also has a maximum towing capacity of one thousand pounds. The DTS features a long list of standard features including dual-zone climate control, front and rear anti-lock brakes, the On-Star communication system, an AM/FM stereo with CD and MP3 capability, and an automatic leveling system. The DTS is a very safe vehicle; the U.S. government has returned four star ratings for passenger front, front side, and rear side crash tests. The government has also given the vehicle a four star rating for its rollover test. A five star rating was returned by the U.S. government for front driver collisions. Whether the driver is looking for safety, performance, or luxury, the DTS delivers on all counts.
