Are you thinking about summer yet? Christmas and New Year is done and dusted, we have been hit with the worst winter in thirty years, and I think the only thing keeping us going is the thought of our holiday in the summer. Where should we try this year? I hear you ask. Well, I am thinking you cant go wrong with booking a nice cheap holiday to one of the Greek Islands. From all of the amazing, picturesque islands to pick from I am convincing myself to go with the fabulous island of Corfu.
Corfu has so much to do including inspiring history, amazing architecture and fabulous scenery. Taverva White house is one of the top attractions of Corfu. The famous residence of the Durrell family is located in the village of Kalami over looking the bay. It is here they resided for four years and even remained in Greece for many years to come after that. There is the Durrell School of Corfu located in Corfu Town dedicated to the brothers as it was Corfu they created some of their greatest master pieces. This school is located in Corfu Town and can be visited by all. One of the greatest and most important Byzantine castle of Greece is the Angelokastro and is a must see. It is located at the top of the highest peak of the islands coastline on the north west of the island near to Palaiokastritsa. You will encounter some fabulous views of the area surrounding the castle when you reach the top.
With the research I have done on Corfu the beaches seem to be amazing and you won't be disappointed. The beaches in Corfu are mainly fine, sandy beaches with calm, turquoise blue seas and are safe to swim and bathe in. You will find beaches of all sizes from the large touristy beaches to the small secluded coves with no-one on them.
Hiring a car is going to be the best way to discover the island I think. With friends and colleagues recommending car hire and travelling everywhere on the island, this has got to be a cheaper and more exciting way of spending the duration of your holiday. Corfu Island is relatively small compared to some other Greek islands and I feel you will get to see most places in your duration here.
Corfu holidays are there to have and you will probably find, as I have, Corfu is one of the cheaper islands to travel to and in the current world economical situation this could be the answer to our summer holidays 2010 on a budget.
