Last summer the production of Merchant by the Public Theatre held at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park by Daniel Sullivan opened to quality reviews. The current round of The Merchant of Venice has its tickets out and the sales are already setting records. This version of The Merchant of Venice stars Al Pacino as Shylock and comes with a legion of other actors who are known for their artistic work. Last summer The Merchant of Venice had people camping out overnight to get tickets. Accentuating language, character, and plot, with actors in period dresses up, The Merchant of Venice is presented by Diana di Grandi from an edition by Shakespearian scholar and writer Marcus D. Whereas The Public productions has brought 54 shows to Broadway, including Sticks and Bones; That Championship Season; A Chorus Line; The Pirates of Penzance; The Tempest; Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk; On the Town; The Ride Down Mt. Morgan; Topdog/Underdog; Take Me Out; Caroline, or Change; Well; Passing Strange; the Tony Award-winning revival of Hair; and this fall, the rock musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and the 2010 Shakespeare in the Park production of The Merchant of Venice.
Also, starring in the play is Lily Rabe who is known to be theater manor born. Lily Rabes father is playwright David Rabe and her mother is actress Jill Clayburgh and this baggage of talent certainly makes her worthy enough to stand the ground alongside other actors that have been casted in the Merchant of Venice.
