Chatuchak Park - A Patch Of Serenity In Bangkok

By:

By far Bangkok, the capital, is also Thailand's largest and most developed city. At first glance it may seem like any major metropolis, with high rise buildings dominating the cityscape and heavy traffic at all times. However, tourists will soon discover that the city contains many hidden gems. Behind all the modern glass and steel lies another world of ancient monuments, grand temples and verdant parks.

Occupying a land area of over fourteen hectares, Chatuchak Park was opened on the 4th of December 1980. The park is located in the northern part of Bangkok and is always in a flurry of activity. Many of the locals go to the park to carry out their exercise routines where shady tracks make perfect pathways for walking and jogging. The park even has several fitness centres and bicycle rental stations. A large artificial lake runs across the grounds, with many ornamental bridges spanning the lake, the most popular of which is probably the Fish Watching Bridge. Visitors can even take boat rides around the lake. Nature lovers will appreciate the greenery in the Thai Literature Garden and Herb Garden.

Chatuchak is also the venue of the largest market in Thailand, the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Often abbreviated to just JJ, the market attracts over 200,000 people each day. Selling an assortment of goods from local handicrafts to food, clothing and even live animals, the market is quintessentially Thai in flavour, and tourists should not miss its excitement. Smoking is completely forbidden inside the market. Chatuchak is a terrific place to visit for families on vacation. Children can play freely on the large grounds and the Childrens Discovery Museum situated inside also promises a lot of fun.

Getting there is very easy as the commons has its own MRT station (Chatuchak) which is located right next to the Mohit BTS Station. Tourists planning to rely on public transport should get accommodation that makes it easy to catch a train or bus. The Sukhumvit area is well known for its nightlife and is populated by a number of high end hotels and residencies. Places such as the Somerset Sukhumvit Thonglor Bangkok offer amazing Sukhumvit Apartments with a central location. Those looking for a Service Apartment in Bangkok with Jacuzzi, swimming pool, gymnasium and other luxuries will be more than pleased with the amenities found here.
