Changing A Tire For Safety

By:

Keeping safe on the road relies on being a careful driver. As well as being a good driver you need to know how to act on certain occasions. Something you need to know how to deal with is changing a tire. Should your tire ever fail you while driving, the following directions will explain exactly what you need to do. You should understand how to change a tire before the situation arises, for obvious reasons.

To change a tire you need a lug wrench, jack and of course a spare. You should always have everything you need to change a spare in your trunk.

This is how you change a flat or blown tire:

Step One - Make sure you are in a safe area and pull over. Then fetch the spare, jack and wrench.

Step Two - Ensure you left the parking brake on, double check even if you think you have.

Step Three - Start to loosen the lugs on the wheel, you may need to take off the rim to do this if you have one. Make sure you do not fully remove them, just get them to the stage where you can finish taking them off by hand.

Step Four - Find the location for the jack, if you are unsure where to place it you will find this information in your owners manual, then start jacking up the car until the tire is off the ground. Now finish removing the lugs.

Step Five - Take off the tire and replace it with the spare. Tighten the lugs back up by hand. Get them as tight as you can with just your hand so the tire is sitting evenly.

Step Six - Place the car back down using the jack.

Step Seven - Use the wrench to finish tightening the lugs as much as you can in the formation of a star. Put everything back in your vehicle including the old tire for proper disposal or repair.

This is everything you need to do to change your tire, if you want some further information or want to clear up certain points look for a tutorial video online. Just make sure you have everything you need stored in your car. Also make sure your cell phone is charged before every long journey just in case you encounter a problem and need to call for help.

When you are changing your tire be sure to be safe and out of the way of traffic.
