PMP certification is not just an school certificate but a certificate of project management Professionals therefore it is really critical that capabilities required in the industry are verified through the PMP exam. In order to ensure that the PMP certificate is awarded to only those people who have understanding of contemporary project management practices PMI develops their PMP exam in such a way that only suitable aspirant should be able to pass the exam.
From time to time enterprise atmosphere is shifting fast therefore there is shift of expertise needed to manage projects in new business surroundings. Organizational environment can include competition, govt policies, resource availability, lessons realized from earlier projects (this shapes the organizational processes and systems).
To ensure that modern market and PM practices and skills of certified PM, both are aligned in the same direction PMI conducts RDS (role delineated study) from time to time, mostly in 5-7 years. Based on the suggestions PMI exam pattern is modified and sometimes input is used for the revision of PMBoK.
RDS commissioned in 2009 is responded by the project managers from 98 nations around the world and these individuals represent almost all the significant industries. Based on this global RDS, it was decided to change the PMP exam pattern. 30-August-11 is the last date of the examination on current pattern and from 31-Aug-11 PMP students will be evaluated based on the new examination pattern.
What is not changing on 31-August-11
o Project management body of knowledge Version
o Eligibility criteria for PMP exam
o Any other exam (like CAPM) pattern of PMI
o No# questions and question style. They are still objective type
o Exam report card
What is modifying on 31-August
o Complexity of questions. Because code of conduct and professional ethics related questions are integrated with the knowledge areas & domains therefore questions will be more confusing and complex than the existing one.
o Nearly 30% of the PMP exam content will change
o Professional and social responsibility content (domain 6) will be tested in every other domain rather than as a separate domain
