PMP certification is not just an academic certificate but a certificate of project management Professionals therefore it is extremely crucial that knowledge required in the business are verified through the PMP examination. In order to ensure that the PMP certificate is conferred to only those folks who have realization of contemporary project management practices PMI develops their PMP exam in such a way that only suitable aspirant should be able to pass the examination.
From time to time organizational atmosphere is transforming fast therefore there is shift of expertise needed to manage projects in new business environment. Organizational environment can include opponents, govt policies, resource availability, lessons realized from prior projects (this shapes the enterprise processes and systems).
To ensure that modern business and PM practices and skills of certified project manager, both are aligned in the same direction PMI conducts RDS (role delineated study) from time to time, normally in 5-7 years. Based on the suggestions PMI examination pattern is adjusted and from time to time input is used for the updation of PMBoK.
RDS commissioned in 2009 is responded by the project managers from 98 nations around the world and these people represent nearly all the significant industries. Based on this global RDS, it was decided to change the PMP examination pattern. 30-Aug-11 is the last date of the exam on present pattern and from 31-August PMP students will be evaluated based on the new exam pattern.
What is not changing on 31-Aug
o PMBoK Version
o Eligibility criteria for PMP exam
o Any other exam (like Certified associate project manager) pattern of PMI
o No# questions and question type. They are still objective type
o Exam report card
What is changing on 31-August-11
o Complexity of questions. Because code of conduct and professional ethics related questions are combined with the knowledge areas & domains therefore questions will be more confusing and difficult than the current one.
o Approximately 30% of the PMP exam content will change
o Professional and social responsibility content (domain 6) will be tested in each other domain rather than as a separate domain
