CFL light bulbs

Despite all the hype about energy saving, CFL light bulbs come with a surprising amount of drawbacks. They don't give off focused beams so you are limited to area lighting rather than spot lighting. They are very sensitive to temperature so if heat ends up trapped the lifespan can be reduced. On the other hand the cold temperatures would hinder it from reaching full brightness, and in some cases it may not warm up properly. Despite the apparent benefits to the environment, the CFL bulbs themselves are toxic since they contain mercury.

LED light bulbs

LED bulbs have usually been pegged second best when compared to CFL lights but once you look at how few drawbacks they have you may just change your mind. Energy saving bulbs are much more expensive than regular bulbs, and in this case LED are the most expensive in terms of their initial cost. The good news is that they will save you energy and result in less electricity use, which will decrease your electricity bill. So, your LED can quickly pay for itself. The other major problem is that these bulbs produce a significant amount of heat. If the fixture is not adequately ventilated this can lead to problems.

Halogen light bulbs

Halogen bulbs were once the type that you would have found in virtually every household that had electricity. Since the invention of LEDs, CFLs and other energy saving bulbs, their use is slowly decreasing. One of the biggest disadvantages is that they only last a few months and are easily breakable. They tend to get very hot, which could lead to personal injury or damage to surrounding structures.

They should always be placed with care to prevent this.
