Ceramic Tiles - What You Should Know About Their Maintenance?

By:

Ceramic tiles have emerged today as one commonly used and most in-demand flooring and wall material. Having a great appearance in comparison to linoleum, these tiles have an interesting texture. It is okay to get it wet, and does not leave splinters like wood. As you know that adding tile to a house or office can cost thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars. How can you maintain the beauty of your tile? There are things that you should be willing to do when adding tile to your house whether it is in your kitchen, bathroom, or anywhere else.

The most important piece of maintenance is sweeping tile regularly. It may take approximately 5 minutes per day to sweep but ignoring this could cost many hours or dollars in the future. Sweeping and cleaning on a regular basis prevents dirt and debris from getting ground into the bumps of the tiles or the spaces between. A few minutes wasted on the sweeping process prevents this dirt from getting stuck in the tiles and help keeps them looking as new as the day they were installed.

Another important thing that you should do on a regular basis is to clean your tiles with a gentle all purpose cleaner as harsh chemicals may strip tiles of their colours, eat away at the tiles, or even hurt the people or pets walking on them. With the help of soaps, vinegars or other gentle household cleaners regularly can work just as well as using industrial cleaners occasionally. There are various products out there that are less harmful than others. These products are biodegradable, contain no harmful substances, and are eco-friendly. Some people use a spray bottle full of bleach but using soap can limit this and keep the tiles looking great for years to come.

Apart from that, about 1-2 times per year you need to have that tile resealed. Before sealing it, be sure to prepare the ceramic tiles for sealing as there will be a probability of sealing the dirt right into the tile. Be sure to sweep and clean away all dirt and debris before starting the process of sealing. There are various products out there that work well for this. It may be worth considering one of these products at this point of time. Because sealing is a bit more permanent than simple scrubbing you want to be sure the tiles are cleaned.

Those Ceramic tiles that you put in the kitchen, bathroom, or anywhere else in the house are expensive. If you treat well with them then they can last longer having their beauty for years or even decades. Just remember that it is no small investment and that if you do not maintain your tile, you could find yourself paying to remove it and to put new ones in. Simply cleaning and sweeping at least once a week and resealing the tiles once every 6 to 12 months can make the difference between loving your tiles for 30 years and replacing them every few years.
