Cellulite Treatment: Not All Dimples Are Attractive

By:

One fine day, you stand in front of a mirror and pinch yourself to check for fat. To your horror, you see a lumpy substance like that of a cottage cheese especially around your stomach, buttocks and thighs. Well, this is what cellulite looks like.

What Is Cellulite?

Its is actually a fancy term used for the fat deposits that push against connective tissue below your skin making it look like lumpy. There are many factors that encourage it to form. Genes, gender, your body's fat percentage, age, your lifestyle and also the thickness of your skin determines its formation.

How to Treat Cellulite

Do not fall for the spa treatments that promise to help you get rid of this problem. Spa treatments only offer massages which shift the fat deposits beneath the skin and the cellulite is concealed for a short period of time.

The moment your skin returns to its original shape, it will show again. You need to understand that removal with massage is not possible as cellulite is very close to your skin and even procedures like liposuction only help get rid of the deeper fat.

The only way to get rid of this fat is by reducing overall body fat. Experts agree that aerobics or strength training is the only best ways to kiss good-bye to this type of fat accumulation. However, you also need to consider the grade of cellulite formation you have.

Grade zero involves no visibility of cellulite at all. Grade one is when you pinch your skin and you find it has the consistency of cottage cheese. Grade two is when the ripples show while you stand. Grade three is when it shows when you lie down in front of a mirror. This is the most difficult type to treat.

There are new technologies which break down fat using vacuum rollers and radio waves. Vacuuming increases blood circulation in your body, thereby clearing away fat that has broken down and the skin is smoothened. The only disadvantage with these machines is that you will be required to go in for treatment once a month.

There are also many laser treatments which remove fat by suction or rolling. It's the same story with so-called "cellulite reduction" creams. Most creams only address the fat that is deep below the surface and do not address the connective tissue at all, even though it is the main area of fat deposit formation. So what does one do to get rid of cellulite?

Watch What You Eat

You need to keep a track of your diet if your wish to avoid this problem or are trying to get rid of it. Avoid high calorie food and even if you do, make sure you burn those extra calories as soon as possible. Eat healthy to stay healthy is the mantra you need to follow in life.

Women Are Especially Prone

Women are more prone to this problem than men. This is because the main protein of the connective tissue, the collagen is in the form of a picket fence while it's like a cross linked fence in men. The type that men have is stronger and can hold fat in a better way.

Women have two types of adrenergic receptors. When stimulated, the alpha induces fat cells to produce fat and when the beta receptors are stimulated, they help in breaking down the fat. The alpha receptor cells are high in women when compared with men and as a result it's women who are more prone to this problem.

Address this problem while it is in its initial stages. This will help you tackle it much easily. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. It's always better to lead a healthy lifestyle, exercise regularly and keep the cellulite at bay.
