Celebrities Use T Shirt Messages

By:

It has become all the rage to wear your heart, not on your sleeve, but on your t shirt. The fashion for messages on the t shirt, from deep and meaningful to satirical, mocking or even downright rude, has recently spread to the celebrities' changing room, with the UK's famous people putting on a t shirt to say what they really mean. This includes z-listers such as the former Mr Katie Price, Alex Reid. He has earned a name as the Winner of Celebrity Big Brother, but this former cage fighter decided to stand up and call attention to a minor spat on Twitter which labelled him a 'Freak Gay'.

The spat between a friend of Alex Reid and the current boyfriend friend of his former wife had just about died down when Alex Reid went out for the night wearing a large pink t shirt bearing the words 'Freak Gay' - the description of Katie Price's current boyfriend, who called her former husband a 'weird Freak Gay'. The t shirt is a clear statement about that Twitter remark, not only reminding people that the boyfriend is a waste of space, but also that Alex Reid has a rather good sense of humour. His t shirt also certainly got him noticed as he arrived at the party, which was surely part of the reason for wearing it. After all, who would have noticed a plain, white t shirt, or the man wearing it? Instead, he was snapped by almost every photographer present, getting his message across and giving himself some nice, and free, publicity at the same time.

The use of these t shirt messages by celebrities could be seen as a further dumbing-down of society: after all, why wear give an interview when you can wear a t shirt and get your message across much more quickly and clearly? Since a lot of modern actors struggle to string a whole sentence together, it is not surprising that they should turn to these cheap and cheerful t shirt one-liners. These t shirt designs don't leave much to the imagination, after all, which could be one reason why they have become so popular with celebrities. With a single line t shirt message, there isn't much chance that they will be misinterpreted or quoted out of context.

The only problem with the current passion for celebrities in message t shirts is that they are very much the trashy end of the scale. Hollywood has certainly slipped from its former days as the glamour capital of the West, but bringing in these t shirt designs is surely a fashion disaster waiting to happen. It is not uncommon to see people on housing estates wearing these t shirt designs, and they are usually synonymous with poor taste and little money. The fact that celebrities have chosen to wear these t shirt messages perhaps says something more about the current state of the fame-mill, with fewer people able to last long in the glare of publicity, and those who do willing to discard everything, including their dignity, in order to get a few more moments in the spotlight.
