Now by using Microsoft office web apps you can store your documents in such a way that you can view and edit your documents in the browser; website becomes the storage device in which you can store all your office documents and makes it easy for you to access and share documents.
Office Web Apps are supported in some of the most widely used browsers for Windows, Mac and Linux such as:
FireFox 3.5
Windows Internet Explorer 7 and 8
Safari 4- for Mac

When working with Office web apps usually Office 2010 is not required, but certain programs in Office 2010 such as Word, Excel. OneNote and Power point include some commands that are used when saving a file directly to Windows Live and SharePoint (It doesnt matter what edition of Microsoft Office you are using).

Getting started:
If you have a hotmail or a windows live account then you can get Microsoft Office web apps easily on internet. Or follow this office.microsoft.com/en-us/web-apps.
Sign in to login to Microsoft Office web apps.
After you are signed in, press Get started free.
You are now in Office section of Windows Live Account.
On right hand side, Click on Create a New Online Document and Start working on a new document (Excel, Word or PowerPoint).
Creating an Ms Word Document:
Step 1:
Select Word document icon and give your document a name/title and set your desired level of sharing.
Step 2:
Once you have set your desired level of sharing and the name of the document, click Save to SkyDrive.
Creating Other Office Web Apps Documents:
It doesnt matter whether you want to create a Power point presentation or an OneNote/Excel Spread sheet document, the procedure remains the same to create a new document.
Your document can only be shared with (public) everyone, only friends or none; one with whom the document is being shared must have a Windows live account. Office web apps use . xlsx/.pptx/.docx etc formats when creating or saving documents. Your documents are stored/saved in SkyDrive (SkyDrive is a component of Windows Live Account). Now you can easily print your stored documents as well. If you want to view or edit your saved document, visit skydrive.live.com and then login, search your document and then hit View. Office web apps have limited features. Each apps has a Home tab, File tab, Insert tab and a View tab. Each tab offers lowest level of functionality.
