What is FTP?
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) in simple terms means an easy method of transferring large files over a network or the internet. One can transfer files over the internet by using many different means; for example through email or even through Messengers, but the problem that arise is that it takes a lot of time and also that we can only send one file at a time, the only solution to this problem is to use FTP.
FTP is pretty much similar to the HTTP; the only difference is that in case of HTTP users use web browsers (Internet Explorer and Mozilla fire fox etc) but in case of FTP, client FTP software (WSFTP and CuteFTP etc) is required.
FTP advantages include:
It is easy to use; it is efficient and is fast.
User can send and receive unlimited number of files.
FTP makes transfer and management of data easier.
FTP gives you control, you can choose the format of file (binary or ASCII) that you want to transfer.
FTP allows you to have an automatic backup.
Creating a FTP Server:
Creating a FTP in your computer is an easy procedure and makes transferring of data easy. With these basic steps you can easily set up an FTP server in no time.
Step 1:
Downloading FTP client:
Download any appropriate FTP client for example Filezilla.
Step 2:
Install the FTP client:
After downloading the FTP client, install the client. Double click the file and then select Run to start the installation process.
Step 3:
Keep the default settings and then select "Server Admin" interface.
Installation is now complete.
Step 4:
Adding Local Host:
Start your program, select Server Address and then add the Local Host, Local Host (name of the server). Keep the port at the default and mark Always connect to this server. Select Ok.
Step 5:
Add a new FTP user:
In the Edit menu, select users and the select add to add a new FTP user for the local host.

Step 6:
User Permission:
Set user access rights for the new user. Select shared folders. Give the users the access to add, create, remove, rename and move folders or files as soon as you determine and set the user access rights.

Step 7:
Testing your FTP server:
Test your FTP server, run FTP and access it by using a web browser.

FTP server is now running and is ready to use.
