It is not always obvious what has caused someone to start to suffer panic attacks and so it is often the first question they ask. The notion that fear plays a big part in many cases is often put forward to try to get to the root of the attacks. The panic attack occurs when a person experiences a fear great enough to cause physiological changes in the body. This leaves the person in a weak state and vulnerable to losing control and having a panic attack.

The causes of panic attacks are wide and varied due to the differences between different people. Nevertheless, there are five categories, which are often cited as common for causes to fall into. These are: hereditary causes; improper nutrition; phobias; lack of assertiveness, and pharmacological triggers. It is important to note that doing nothing about the condition may prove to be disastrous. After being once overcome by an attack, it is advised that you seek help, advice, knowledge, and anything, which can help you deal with the problem and tackle it in the right way.

Physical/Psychological

The physical and psychological causes of panic attacks both need to be considered when dealing with the condition.

Confidence is vital when taking on panic attacks and getting to the root cause. It is paramount to try to remain strong when dealing with them. Phobias are often cited as causes of panic attacks and these phobias, in fact, arise on account of having suffered a traumatic event. The theory is that there has been a permanent effect on a person following the event and it is buried deep in the memory. It periodically causes panic attacks after this. These attacks could possibly effect the person indefinitely because they are not likely to ever erase the memory of the event.

Some physical biological causes of panic attacks are worth considering too, involving possible changes in the body. It has been suggested that vitamin B plays a role. Those with poor diets are more likely to suffer panic attacks due to a deficiency. Similarly, someone suffering hyperthyroidism or hypoglycemia may find themselves experiencing panic, so too might those going through post traumatic stress or even an inner ear problem.

The abuse of alcohol and other drugs can be linked to panic attacks in some cases, in particular, the effects of withdrawal symptoms. Another cause could be hyperventilation syndrome. A significant event like a death of someone close should also be considered when looking into causes of panic attacks.
