Causes Of Female Hair Loss

By:

Many women think of their hair as a big part of themselves. Most women strive to have luxurious hair. Women want an answer when their hair starts to fall out and appear thin or balding patches start to form on their head.

Monthly womens hair grows one half of an inch. Each strand of hair grows at a rate of two to six years. The strand of hair stays on the head and then falls out. A new strand of hair will grow and this should repeatedly happen as we age.

Other women may experience hair loss due to genetics. These genetics are male hormones instead of female hormones thus causing the hairs growth phase to change. The hair follicles may ultimately die as well as other hair follicles are unable to produce or continue to have a healthy hair growth rate. The cause of hair loss is known as androgenic alopecia or baldness when the issue of male hormones versus female hormones occurs. Women may suffer from androgenic alopecia or other causes listed below.

Common polycystic ovary syndrome causes hair loss. Another medical condition that will cause hair loss is alopecia areata which will cause hair to fall out in patches or clumps.

Telogen effluvium usually occurs after giving birth to a child, surgery, a traumatic emotional event or crash dieting. Telogen effluvium causes hair loss.

Other common causes of hair loss in women include chronic illness; the use of certain medications will put a woman at risk, thyroid disorders and anemia.

Women should seek treatment from their physician to correctly diagnose the hair loss problem. A blood test may help to diagnose the hair loss. When seeking treatment for hair loss, it is best to have a consultation with a doctor that is a specialist in female pattern balding. A scalp biopsy may also be administered to correctly diagnose the womans hair loss. Before all of these tests are done, a doctor must make sure there is no underlying physical condition.

The difference between men and womens hair loss is when men suffer from hair loss they lose hair on the crown, temple and a bald spot on the back, whereas women lose their hair around the entire top of the head. Women can lose their hair at anytime whereas men diagnosed with genetic predisposition lose their hair due to age.

If you are experiencing hair loss, please seek medical consultation to find the correct treatment necessary.
