Catnip Effects On Your Cat And Kitten

Catnip Effects On Your Cat And Kitten

By:

Catnip effects can usually result in a lot of running, jumping, and purring. Some cats even like to rub their face in the catnip. After all of this playing most cats will calm down and sleep for a while. The way your cat responds to the plant will depend on how potent the herb is.

If your cat or kitten is not responding to the catnip toy it may be because the catnip leaves are old and have lost some of potency. You can either give your cat a pinch of dried leaves to eat or a toy to play with. The effects will be the same.

Some cats like eating the leaves but if your cat has an especially sensitive digestive system this can result in diarrhea and vomiting. If you are not sure if your cat can handle eating the leaves you can try giving them a small amount to eat or simply stick to the toys. If your cat has trouble when they eat the leaves then you can simply give them a catnip toy in it's place.

A catnip toy is a great way for your cat or kitten to enjoy catnip without having any of the stomach problems that can comes with eating the leaves. The cats enjoy the smell of the catnip. When the leaves start to grow old and lose potency you can either refill the toy with more leaves or roll the toy in crushed catnip leaves. Some pet stores even sell catnip sprays. This refreshes the old toy with the catnip scent so that your cat will enjoy it again.

When confronted with catnip some felines may become aggressive. If you are not sure how your kitten or cat will react it is best to try it when there are no other animals around. When you have more than one cat they will usually enjoy the catnip together but if they react badly towards it there could be fighting.

To be on the safe side put your cats in separate rooms to test their reaction to the catnip. Be sure to keep them apart until the affects have worn off. If you have children it is best to keep them away from the cats while performing this experiment. If your cat is naturally aggressive then this experiment is probably the safest way to go.

Most cats and kittens experience a euphoric reaction when they come in contact with catnip but not all felines are affected by it. About fifty to seventy percent of cats are affected by the plant. It is not uncommon to have one cat in the house that goes crazy for catnip and another who does not show any interest at all.
