Catch Auto Issues Early With Your Senses

By:

Do you know what to look for to determine if your car is having issues? By taking the time to be observant of what you are seeing and smelling, you can determine if your car needs repairs and what you need to do to get it running as efficiently as possible.

When you park your car, do you see any stains or fluid under your car? This might just mean that your air conditioning system is working, but it could also be a sign of a serious issue. Colored fluid that is orange, blue, or a yellow green color can indicate that you have a coolant leak or an engine that is overheating. If you notice this, you will want to be sure that you get to a mechanic quickly as you could be having issues with your water pump or your radiator, which can cause additional damage to your vehicle.

If you notice a black oily or brown substance that is coming out of the bottom of the car, this can be an indicator that your car is leaking some oil. This is a problem that can be quite expensive, as it can be a bad seal or gasket, so be sure that you go to a reputable mechanic to make sure that you get it fixed before it causes further damage.

A reddish spot that has an oily shininess to it can indicate a power steering fluid leak or a transmission fluid leak. This can be an indicator of an issue that can be brewing, so be sure that you get to a mechanic to have your vehicle checked out if you notice this sort of leakage.

Smoke coming from your engine means that you need something repaired. If you notice it coming from a wheel, you could have a brake issue, and will want to call a tow truck to get you to the repair shop. Smoke is never a good thing, unless it is from your squealing tires when you are giving your car too much gas, so be sure that you keep this in mind if you notice smoke.

If you smell something strange from your car, you will want to consider what exactly you may smell. A gas smell after you have tried to start the car can simply mean that it is flooded, but if it continues, you will want to get your car checked out to ensure that there is not a more serious issue.

By using your senses, you can determine if there are issues with your car that may need attention. Your eyes, ears, and nose can allow you to be sure that you are able to catch any issues with your car before they turn into major issues. No matter what kind of car that you have, it is up to you to be observant to what is going on with it. This can make the difference in catching problems early or not.
