Casual Fridays - Leave Your Necktie At Home

By:

Many companies let employees dress down or dress casually on a Friday. What you wear on casual day at work reflects your personality so be careful on choosing your attire or you will be getting negative comments for the rest of the work week.

Wearing a polo shirt or golf shirt and casual slacks or khakis along with loafers on casual Fridays is ideal. You might think that it is pretty basic but some people still make wardrobe mistakes on casual days. Take the polo shirt for instance, some people go into work on casual days without tucking their shirt into their pants and worse it is sometimes crumpled and faded too. Remember that you should still look impeccable even with just wearing casual attire so make sure that your clothes are clean and neatly pressed.

Golf shirts and mercerized cotton shirts are highly recommended. Mercerized cotton feels and looks like silk so it gives the impression of being a higher quality outfit.

You can also opt for a light blue pale striped shirt with a white crew-neck undershirt and leave your collar open. Casual Fridays is also when you can wear your trendy cut neckties that are bright colored or have unconventional designs. If you wear dark colored ties on regular days then you can try bright green, orange, or pink during casual Fridays.

Khakis and worsted wool slacks are recommended for dress down Fridays. Again, make sure that your pants are neatly pressed and clean. You can also opt for gabardine pants that are a little heavier which makes the fabric drape well especially for trousers that are pleated.

A sport jacket can give you a smarter image. A two-button sport jacket in navy blue color can go well with almost all of your casual Friday attire.

What NOT to wear
Although it is called casual Fridays, it is still a business attire. Showing up too casual might be seen as an insult by your boss, co-workers and clients. Doing so might actually hurt your career and chance to get promoted. Although it is a casual day, you still want to dress in a professional manner. So, never wear tennis or running shoes, never wear a non-collared T-shirt, never wear light colored or faded jeans, never put on white tennis socks, and never go to work without taking a shower in the morning.

Remember, dressing down does not necessarily mean letting your professional image go. Apply these tips and you will still look smart and chic even on casual Fridays.
