Castle Recap: It Has Some Bark And Some Bite

By:

Cute and cuddly canines grace the show this time around as An Embarrassment of Bitches begins at a dog show where a famous dog trainer slash dog whisperer slash judge was found dead inside his dressing room. The victim, Francisco Pilar, was found lifeless shortly after choosing the winner of the dog show and, naturally, all the usual suspects would include the losers. However, it seems reality TV star Kay Cappucio (Hilarie Burton) just might be involved. After all, she was seen fleeing the scene of the crime.
Kay claims she went to the dressing room to demand why Pilar suddenly refused to continue training her dog Lolita, only to find him dead. She panicked, and fled. It also turns out that the sole witness to the murder is Pilars dog, Royal. Things get more surreal when Beckett and company find out that Pilar was hiring a therapist for Royal. Theres also the fact that recently, Pilar has been getting his hands on quite a substantial amount of money.
It is revealed that Pilar has his own breeding center for an experimental new breed of golden retrievers, and all that cash is courtesy of other dog breeders who want first dibs on the litter. High risk and high returns made Pilar extremely paranoid, thinking Kay and her people are out to steal his secrets.
Ryan also finds a sweeper for snooping devices in Pilars house, which leads them to find a hidden camera in Lolitas collar, which then leads them to the persistent paparazzi who planted it there, who further divulges that the camera footages reveal Pilar to be a drug smuggler... Still with me? Good, because we then find out that Pilar was in cahoots with a customs agent in this business of breeding dogs that specifically sniffs and detects drugs.
Royal appears to be one of these drug-detecting canines. These dogs paw at the ground at any trace or scent of narcotics, which was exactly what Royal was doing when the cops found him at the crime scene. This almost pinned the murder on Kay, whose poppy-scented perfume was picked up by the eyewitness Royal and made him react in the same manner.
It also looks like Castles little girl would be flying the nest soon. Shes going off to college; does this mean we wont be seeing a lot of Molly Quinn in the future? What does Daddy have to say about that?
Becketts hair was in keeping with the episodes theme, but I wish shed ditch the poodle do next episode. Suckers for dog-themed shows or episodes would truly enjoy this one; however, somewhere in the middle they might notice the attention straying away from the victim Pilar.
