Carrying And Owning A Gun Are Two Different Things That Criminals Do Not Understand

By:

In the aftermath of the awful shootings and killings that involved not only a congress woman in Tucson, but a real hero federal judge who died saving a friend, many are calling for new laws on fire arms. The problem with that is that the gunman involved had every right to buy a firearm under the present law because his mental illness, so obvious to everyone now, was not reported, nor, as far as we know at this point, had he ever seen a professional for that mental illness.

Maybe it is the laws governing our mental health system that need tweaking, not our gun laws, since most of the people who own guns and use them legally are not insane and are not dangerous at all and either use them for hunting, shooting skeet or to keep them to protect themselves and their families. It would be sad to see our citizens deprived of a right mentioned in the constitution because of some nut.

Every state has its own set of gun laws, so each person wanting to own a firearm should find out what his or her state has on record. But also remember that defending yourself with one in the seconds after a break in or attempted hold up of some kind is much better than waiting for the minutes it takes for a policeman to arrive. You could already be dead if you wait.

We hear every day about some criminal using a gun in some sort of robbery, and in most of those cases, the gun is stolen. Changing laws will not keep that from happening because such people have no respect for any law in the first place. And if restrictive laws are enacted, then only the criminals will have guns, and we will be completely at their mercy. Our forefathers knew this, and many things were written about what they said. For instance, Thomas Jefferson said, 'No free man shall ever be disbarred the use of arms.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, at last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.' And to quote George Washington, 'The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference-they deserve a place of honor will all that's good.' So find out about the laws in your specific state on firearms, and follow them to the best of your ability and do not let anyone take them away from you. Hitler did that in his first days in power.
