Carriage Bolts: For Simple And Common Applications

By:

Carriage bolts were made and developed for the exceptional functionality and quality. It is used not only for heavy duty industrial equipment but for other equipment as well. They provide a strong grip of different elements. They also ensure the good performance and form a solid and firm foundation in the long run. These particular bolts have expanded the scope of its application and its performance work appropriately that reduces risk but performs effectively. Carriage bolts have the tensile strength and the stiffness that meet the demands of every buyer.

In home improvements, the most common type of implements are the bolts and these always come with a nut and some come even with washers. There are three specific kinds of bolts: the machine bolt, the stove bolt, and the carriage style bolt. Although these three types are the most common bolts that are used, there are other bolts such as toggle bolts, expansion bolts, and the like. For most part, carriage bolts are the one mostly utilized out of all the bolts. It is coarse threaded and could go up to a size as long as 10 inches or even more.

Carriage bolts are used mainly for furniture or for timber. That is because the parts along with their shanks are threaded which are just inserted into pre-drilled holes, unlike for screws which are driven into the object or wood without a hole. The bolts that have dome heads and have a square neck pulls itself inside the wood then the nut tightens. Although carriage bolts are designed to be round headed with a square shaft some come with no neck at all. These bolts are seen often in regular furniture. The collar of the bolt fits into the hole or in such a way twisted in the wood to prevent each bolt turning when in tightening of the nut.

Looking at wooden furniture, you will notice the different parts of the furniture which are joined together by these bolts. Basically, you just can see the round of the head of the bolt but it has a square collar driven right into the wood. On the other side you will notice a small protrusion that is secured by the nut. The sturdiness of the bolt is the reason why the square collar is rightly fitted in the hole of the wood keeping the entire bolt from turning while being tightened by a wrench.

These bolts are often coarse threaded and available in 3/4 inch in diameter and 1/2 inch in length. The rods are joined by a spiral threads with a head that includes the neck which avoids rotation. These bolts are normally manufactured from a metal that has different neck sizes. It is sometimes referred to as a plow bolts. This type of bolt sinks itself into a cradle that glues the felt pads in the cradle cavity. So to secure beams together the piece of hardware passes thru all the beams and must be fastened together.
