Carpet Sweeper - Cleanup Has Never Been So Easy

By:

Ever since people started putting things down on the ground to cover it, they've been trying to figure out ways to clean those things. From the marble floors of the Egyptians to the plushest carpet in a multimillionaire's bedroom, stuff has been falling on the floor and needed to be picked up. Back in 1876, Mr. Melville R. Bissell patented the first carpet sweeper aimed at helping us all out.

Like many inventors, he took several useful devices and put them together to work as one. The sweeper has bristles like a broom and a dirt catcher like a dustpan and it's all attached to some wheels and a long handle to push everything along the floor with. Put it all together and suddenly keeping the carpet clean is much easier.

Carpet sweepers are used for more than just sweeping carpets, of course. They can be used for cleaning any floor surface or even throw rugs as long as they're heavy enough not to be pulled up by the sweeper bristles. This little tool is great for cleaning up dry messes in a jiffy, with no need to drag out the heavy vacuum and plug it in.

The first patent has led to many improvements and innovations over the last 140 years, or so. There are a lot more models to choose from than there were back then. Many styles and brands of sweepers are available on the market. Whether you like the simplicity of the original, or like something with all the bells and whistles, you're sure to find one you like.

These days you can find sweepers with multiple roller bars for scooping up more dirt with each pass. You will also find many that are aided by electricity for faster roller movement and suction power. You don't have to worry about an electric cord following along behind you though, because they either use a rechargeable battery pack or store in a recharger. All you have to do is pick it up, turn it on, and your ready to tackle Junior's latest attempt at decorating the floor with oat O's.

Whatever mess you're attacking, these little devices are a real homemaker's friend. Whether you're a surf bum with sand in your apartment or a bank president cleaning up after the grandkids, having a carpet sweeper handy is a true back saver. Easy to use, small and lightweight, they store most any place. Pulling out the heavy vacuum cleaner for every mess isn't necessary anymore if you have one of these useful appliances in the house.
