Carpal tunnel exercises are designed to stretch the forearm muscles and to reduce tension on tendons that pass through the carpal tunnel. Isometric and stretching exercises for the hand and the wrist, for instance, can strengthen the muscles and can improve blood flow to these areas. One exercise you can perform is the side stretch. To do this, you should first interlace your fingers and lift your arms over your head while keeping your elbows straight. Press your arms backward as far as you can, then slowly lean alternately to your left and to your right until you can feel your arms stretch.

You may also try another exercise wherein you extend your arms straight out in front of you, extend your wrists and fingers, maintain this position for five seconds, and relax your wrist and fingers. Afterwards, keep your wrist and fingers straight, make a fist, and squeeze tightly. Maintain this position for five seconds and then bend your wrists down while keeping your fists clenched.

The last exercise you can perform is called the median nerve gliding exercise. Here, you move your thumb through six positions while keeping your wrist in a neutral position. Make a fist with your wrist in neutral, straighten your fingers and your thumb, bend your wrist back, and move your thumb away from your palm. Hold this position for seven seconds before turning your wrist palm up and using your other hand to gently pull your thumb away from your palm.

These are just three examples of carpal tunnel exercises treatment that you can perform at home.
